Commonly used organophosphorus flame retardants include tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, tris(xylene) phosphate, butadiene benzene series phosphate, propylene benzene series phosphate and so on. Phosphate esters are characterized by dual functions of flame retardancy and plasticization. It can achieve halogen-free flame retardant, and its plasticizing function can improve the flow and processability of plastics during molding, and can suppress residues after combustion. It produces less toxic and corrosive gases than halogen-based flame retardants. Its main advantages are higher efficiency; less influence on light stability or light stabilizer; less corrosiveness during processing and combustion; hindering re-ignition; little or no increase in the quality of flame retardant materials. However, most phosphate ester flame retardants also have some disadvantages. Such as high volatility, poor heat resistance, unsatisfactory compatibility, and dripping during burning.

Flame Retardant TEP

The main products of phosphorus-containing inorganic flame retardants are ammonium phosphate, red phosphorus flame retardant, and ammonium polyphosphate. As the amount of halogen-free flame retardant materials increases, so does the amount of red phosphorus flame retardants. The flame retardant effect of red phosphorus is better than that of phosphate esters. Phosphorus-containing inorganic flame retardants are widely used because of their advantages such as non-volatility, good thermal stability, long-lasting effect, generation of corrosive gas, and low toxicity.

Phosphorus-based flame retardants have a flame retardant effect by promoting dehydration and carbonization during the initial decomposition of the polymer. This dehydration carbonization step must rely on the oxygen-containing groups of the polymer itself, and for polymers with oxygen-containing groups in their structure. Their flame retardant effect will be better. For polypropylene, because its molecular structure has no oxygen-containing groups, the flame retardant effect is not good when phosphorus flame retardants are used alone, but if they are compounded with AL(0H)3 and Mg(OH)2 It can produce a synergistic effect, thereby obtaining a good flame retardant effect.
